Immigration Judge Orders Activist’s Deportation to Third Country

The appeal to prevent his removal was denied.

U.S. Immigration Judge Jamee Comans ordered Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil to be removed to either Algeria or Syria. The Columbia University grad was ordered released by a judge in June after his detention by President Donald Trump’s administration in March.

The administration alleged that Khalil omitted or misrepresented his affiliations with the Palestinian advocacy organization, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA), on his green card application. He was prominent in pro-Hamas and anti-Israel demonstrations at Columbia.

Judge Comans found that Khalil “willfully misrepresentative“ his background on the application and that his “limited family ties“ in the U.S. did not provide a compelling reason for his continued residency. She also ruled that she lacked the authority “to question foreign policy determinations.“ Khalil could be deported to Algeria, where he has citizenship, or Syria, in which he was born.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For federal judges to be discerning as they hear and rule on immigration enforcement cases.
  • For President Trump and U.S. immigration officials as they seek to ensure national security by deporting migrants who support violence and terrorism.
